I was born in Menominee Michigan’s (Upper Peninsula) 1949 and graduated from high school in 1967. I have been doing art all my life. I very much enjoy the outdoors, and all it has to offer. I work from animals I have hunted to what I come across on just a walk in the wood, and what Mother Nature leaves for so few to ever see and enjoy.
Although I have no formal education relative to art, I was blessed as a small child, with a Grandmother who lucky for me, thought, I had some potential, she purchased, books, materials, and other things a young budding artiest could find useful.
Until now I’ve never tried to sell my work commercially; I have sold a considerable amount to friends and acquaintances, who have tried to convince me to sell it more aggressively. I’m certain I’ve heard most of the clichés about starving artists. I had no desire to become one.
My day jobs have been many over the years. My resume includes powder monkey, steel worker, logger and road construction. I worked in a steel mill in Milwaukee WI after I married my wife Susan. Moved to Saint Maries ID in 1973 with my wife and son Kenneth L., and son Jake was born in ID. I have worked in a cedar mill and as a logger when first moved to ID and the last 31 years I have worked for Potlatch Corporation here in Saint Maries, Idaho.
The work I enjoy doing are mostly forms from nature, a pine knot or even a rock can if properly executed be attractive. My all time favorite, examples of Mother Nature’s sculpture, are the various antlers and horns from some of her most beautifully designed creatures. I do a lot of these. I also enjoy doing animals, old farm implements, old barns – and other derelect buildings. To me they represent dreams past. Some realized, some not. The greatest pleasure I find in my art is creating something from absolutely nothing, save for the ideas.
