Audrey Parker was raised in the idyllic English Lake District where at an early age she learned to appreciate the play of light on the mountains and lakes that surrounded her.
In 1962 she moved to the United States, her adopted country, where she discovered the beauty of New England, the lighthouses of Maine. Moving across the country to California in the 1970's, she studied the magnificent Pacific Ocean, the play of light and shade on the water, the endless patterns of the surf. In the mmagnificent Yosemite National Park she felt at home among the mounains and waterfalls and the endless beauty of nature. She has made her home now in Arizona which has so much natural beauty in the desert and the mountains, and the splendor of Grand Canyon.
A self-taught artist, she paints what she knows and loves best: landscapes, seascapes, Monet inspired images of ponds and lily pads and weeping willows, and one of her favorites, the guardians of the night, the lighthouses. Her paintings exude joy, their vibrancy and color reflecting cherished memories of the beauty that surrounded her as a child.
With acrylic her elected medium, she creates images from her imagination rather than specific scenes, drawing on her vast reference material for accuracy and inspiration. The paintings "paint themselves" she says.
Audrey honors God for the talent He gave her, and feels blessed in being able to share it with others. |
