 Hello, I am Renuka Nambiar. I hail from Udupi in Karnataka. I am now based in Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. I have been painting since childhood using mediums like water colour oil, acrylic. I took up painting seriously after I resigned from bank as an officer and settled in Hyderabad.
I have had no formal training in arts but I consider it to be a gift from God and my parents-Dr Nambiar and Ms Janaki Nambiar, both who are artists.
I took up glass painting in 2004. I also make paper collages. I have devised my own technique/style both in glass paintings and in collages. My earlier collages were with cloth pieces and knick knacks.
It was in the year 2004 that I felt a great urge to paint and the memories of my childhood and my travel experiences were pouring out of my head. I could not afford to buy canvas and paints as my children were pursuing their higher studies. So all I could do was tear out small pieces of papers from coloured magazines that I had collected over the years. My collages are made up of anything between 4000 to 5500 pieces of paper individually stuck on a thick sheet of paper. I also love to work with glass paint. I love to use bright colours.
In 2007, I came up with another type of painting using glass pieces. While shifting residence, one of my glass paintings broke. Later I broke it into many small pieces and created a piece of art. The accolades I got from art lovers inspired me to get more glass pieces. My mirror stuck on the wardrobe came off and shattered into hundreds of pieces. My husband looked at the pieces and sighed "Oh!" and I said "Ah! Thank you God." Thereafter, within a months time I came out with seven works of art with these very pieces of glass.
