While moving apartments from Manhattan to Queens, artist Jesse Utt put his foot through one of his most prized paintings, a painting depicting his version of Queen Esther from the Bible and Ganymedes from Greek mythology. Not wanting to lose the most important part of this painting, he fashioned it into a canvas wrist cuff with some jewel snaps purchased at the Jewish fabric store and he became Jesse Utt, accessory designer. On the subway and on the streets of New York everyone would ask where he got this cuff, where could they get one. And so, Zachary Pryor, urban inspired accessories was born. Zachary, from the name his mother had wanted him to name him so badly and Pryor, from the maiden name of his most loved relative, with whom he felt a strong soul connection, his grandmother, Queva. (earrings with her namesake can be found in the accessory section.)
Jesse has created several different and very unique styles of accessories for the truly fashion forward, for those who are willing to be truly original when donning a funky cuff, belt or pair of earrings.
Zachary Pryor accessories have been featured in Maxim magazine on Nicky Hilton, Time Out New York Fall 2004, InStyle Spring 2005, on Showtimes "The L Word," on the daytime dramas "One Life to Live" and "All My Children," worn by Avril Lavigne during the 2004 MTV movie awards, John Tartaglia (Tony Award nominated actor in Avenue Q), Mary-Kate Olsen and Shirley Manson.
His first line, for which he has received and is still receiving consumer and media attention, is based upon his comic-inspired sketch-work. The line of fully painted enamel-like earrings, canvas cuffs, belts and buckles and dog tag chains feature images of everything from flora and fauna to screaming comic book super villains to images of the city-dwellers and hipsters that exist within his mind and on the streets of the many cities he has resided in. These pieces are completely unique and each one is a one-of-a-kind. What makes them even better is that they look equally great on both men and women.
Zachary Pryor also features a line of leather cuffs.
The "Bella Donna #9" line is decorated with leather, lace, upholstery fabric and sequined appliqués and is based on the Stevie Nicks song the artist and his mother listened to on their many road trips.
The "Prom Nite" line consists of stitched leather cuffs with silk and rubber orchids and lilies finished off with fresh water pearl accents.
The "Secret Punk" line of cuffs are stitched leather with chain and grommets. Zachary Pryor also features a line of leather and fabric Astrology cuffs with descriptive words and symbols for each sign
His latest line, "The Soul Mates" delves more into the main-stream accessory market with an offering of silver and semi-precious stone earrings and pendants. Each piece is named after one of the many close girl-friends he has, his true soulmates. Though the medium is more traditional, Jesse still brings his unique design sensibility and skilled use of color to each piece. With these pieces the "Zachary Pryor girl" can be elegant while still maintaining her "funkiness."
Zachary Pryor accessories can be seen and worn in many states and in a couple of other countries, giving the line massive exposure and the artist a great sense of achievement. Jesse hopes that he can continue making products for the world to enjoy and that his work will continue to grow until he is a house-hold name. |
