Retirement
Melanie Elliott
This watercolor is painted on rag paper 6 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches. A 1 1/2 matt surrounds the painting and a frame of dark maple stain is the finishing touch.
A drive through the magnificent Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada provides a host of inspirational images for the artist.
I have named this painting "Retirement". This geranium arrangement compelled me to paint it's image as it was the most oustanding symbol of what I considered to be a gracious retirement.
After completing and naming the painting I had an opporunity to meet with the two elders who created this image. It was their practice to inform admirers like myself that they do not consider themselves retired but ambitious artists and ambassadors of nature's gifts and wonders.
