"El Viejo y el Mar" in English means "The old man and the sea" and it is based on the book by that title by Earnest Hemmingway. It was finished in 2003. Jaime Villa was born in BaƱos, Ecuador in the Province of Tungurahua. He has long been a part of the fine art community in Ecuador and is very well known both inside and outside the the art world in his native country. His distinctive style and flare has marked his works from the beginning. He continues to actively paint in his studio and is regularly involved in important exhibitions throughout the country.
Since 1960 Jaime Villa has been participating in many exhibitions both national and international, like the Salon de Octubre and the first Bienal of independence for Latinamerica in 1972. He has made many individual exhibitions in Quito and Guayaquil - Ecuador and has also had excibitions in Los Angeles, USA - Lima, Peru - Mexico City, Mexico.
Currently he is a Professor of Artistic Drawing and Design in the University Laica Vicente Rocafuerte de Guayaquil, Ecuador. These are but a few of the many exhibitions he has participated in in the past decades. He has also been invited recently to participate in an exhibition in Soho New York in the early part of 2006
