Artist’s statement
Having spent most of my life working with and surrounded by wildlife, both exotic and domestic, I am continually enthralled and inspired by them……..so many complexities and personalities to explore! I know what a lion’s mane smells like, how it feels, the texture of tiger’s fur, the swiftness, the calculations and even the affections. It is difficult for me to not separate the herd or the flock and focus on an individual. Most of my wildlife subjects tend to take the dominant place in my paintings.
I grew up working with horses and other livestock in southern oregon. I later volunteered and worked at a wildlife park surrounded by and caring for creatures from all over the world. I was very involved in providing behavioral enrichment which meant really studying their natural behaviors and habits in the wild. My fascination with them has never waned.
My next adventure was working up close and personal with a wide variety of parrots and of course, I fell in love!
With so much that is ugly and terrible in the world today, I choose to paint these amazing creatures, or the intricasies of a flower,…all these things to remind me that there is still beauty in the world, and that we are not alone in our struggle to survive.
I still reside in Oregon with my nine feathered friends, and their dog, moses. I hope you enjoy my site and thank you for your interest!
