Christmas Church in Hollow Folk Art Donna Hickerson
Acrylic on 5 x 5 inch wood square plaque protected with satin varnish. The frame and the back of the plaque is deep holly green. This petite original painting looks good displayed on a small decorative easel or plate stand. If you wish to hang it, you can attach a plaque ring to the top.
When I was growing up, my family and I would travel to eastern Kentucky to spend the holidays with relatives. This little painting is typical of the churches I viewed as we drove on our merry way to our country destination.
We often traveled at night to arrive on Christmas Eve. The colors of the December nights in the country reflected an array of unusual hues giving off a mood of calmness and reverence for the season.
The sky is a blend of deep, reddish maroon with swirls of blue glitter. The church is a neon mint green that seems to glow against the night sky. The steeple and roof of the church are a deep blue with blue glitter and the trees are a deeper green mixed with mint green with some blue glitter. The star on top the steeple is gold with gold glitter. There are faint traces of snow falling though out the sky.
Thank you for looking and please know that the colors are much richer in person.
