Geoffrey Doig-Marx (GDM) moved to New York City in the mid 80’s where he started a career in dance and musical theatre.

At age 15 he left home and spent his life in group homes and runaway shelters. His life has been a huge journey and in May 0f 2010 he was reunited with a birth sister he never knew he had and his birth mother.

In December of 2011 he returned to living in Harlem and married the love of his life. It was at this time that he started painting and hasn’t looked back. He was invited to show his paintings at Arts on Division Street in May 2012.

Director/Choreographer/Outsider Folk Artist, Geoffrey Doig-Marx is currently working on the book/lyrics of a new horror musical with composer Andrea Green and David Shapiro.

Geoffrey is currently on faculty at Marymount Manhattan College, ARB’s Princeton Ballet School and Montclair State University. He is a member of Actor’s Equity and an associate member of The Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

In the past, Geoffrey was Creative Associate to Director Denis Jones and Creator/Executive Producer Jerry Mitchell for “Broadway Bares 16-New York Strip” and Creative Associate for “Broadway Bares 17- Myth Behavior, 18-Wonderland” and “Click it-19.0” for Director Peter Gregus at Roseland in NYC.

Geoffrey received a Certificate of Excellence in Cultural Achievement from the Manhattan Borough President office of The Mayor of New York City for his work as Artistic Director of The Elan Awards.

Recently The Elan Awards became permanent part of the dance archives for The New York City Performing Arts Library.
