This painting depicts a portion of the area known as the Cascades in the Botanical Gardens of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga (S.A.). It is one of my favorite peaceful and inspiring places to visit. The waterfalls shown here are one of many and this was a time when the Crocodile River (which feeds into this area) was in full flood. Rains were generous and as this whole area is situated at an angle, silt, sand and water come rushing down from every rock and crevice, pools feed pools and the whole lot eventually flows down into the river. It is a sight to behold after the rains. Besides the water which is mermerising the rocks with their differernt shapes, some rough some worn smooth by the water, some dark some light are a real art study.
Oil on Canvas.
