John Broad
John BroadJohn was born in Essex, England and attended Southend School of Art. From there he went on to study at Edinburgh College of Art, under Mr. William Gillies, graduating with a Degree in Painting and Drawing. Moving to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, in 1989 he took up an art teaching post at the Cayman Islands High School.

Since then he has held many successful solo exhibitions in Grand Cayman, the most notable being "Pure Art" in 1991 at Kennedy Gallery, and the most recent being "Renascence" at the Westin in November 2005. John has also participated in many mixed exhibitions such as the National Gallery's "Watermarks" and "Emergence".

In 2003, he was commisssioned by the National Gallery to paint on five hundred glazed tiles, which when assembled, would pictorally commemorate and celebrate 500 years of Cayman Islands history. John was presented to Prince Andrew at the Opening Ceremony of the "Wall of History" in May of that year. John was also awarded the Cayman Islands National Cultural Foundation's prize for Artistic Achievement in 2004.

In 2006, after an exhibition at the Ritz Carlton he was commisssioned to paint a picture of the hotel to be presented to the Manager, Mr. Michael Ryan. John has also attended a Digital Printmaking Workshop as part of the National Gallery's "Artists Away Programme".

His most recent specialism has been speed painting where he paints a scene on site. In 2004, he created a painting of a dinner at the Westin Casaurina Hotel celebrating new Spanish style cuisine. In 2005, John's speed painting of a Hedge Funds Care Dinner to raise funds for abused children raised KYD$8,000.00 at auction. In addition, at Art at the Governor's he was commissioned by Walkers, a law firm, to paint the colourful scene.

In July 2007, John traveled to Vouvant, France for an art tour where he gained further inspiration and was invited to exhibit his work in Nice in 2008. Also, in 2008, one of his paintings raised KYD$2,000.00 to assist with the preservation of Miss Lassie's House, a Caymanian artist and icon.

John's work is infused with pure colour, movement and passion for the human spirit. His work is in collections both in Grand Cayman and around the world.
