Avocado Cosmogenetica
Vics Magsaysay (see more by this artist)
Avocado originated in Puebla, Mexico. The "fruit" is technically a berry with a large seed. It comes from the Nahuatl word "ahuacatl," which means "testicle," owing to the shape of the fruit. Aztecs have known it as the "fertility fruit." This inspires me to come out with this sculpture with a seed that's actually a hole or emptiness. (Isn't it true that all life starts from darkness or emptiness?--a seed buried in the soil, a fetus in the mother's womb or a young star in the void of stellar nursery.) Blue is the color of the sky or the heavens. And there are four layers in the sculpture suggesting the four dimensions of space and time. Central to that is the hole...or the "Whole" where everything originates. The cosmic whole seems empty or inactive. In fact, it is so fecund, fertile. Now in astrophysics, they discovered that dark matters, invisible matters, that were totally unknown before, are actually significantly responsible for all the cosmic dance we have in the sky since time immemorial.
