Shaded in hues of ivory and sepia, a rabbit skull with one lower jaw bone illustrates lagomorph anatomy in this natural history photograph. This female rabbit was once a visitor to our backyard years ago, raising many a brood, even allowing us to watch her nurse (this was before my husband and I were avid gardeners, and didn't mind rabbits about ;O). One day she died in my flower garden and we left her there, thinking it was a fitting place. This spring (about 7 years later) nature uncovered some of her bones beneath the spirea. I thought Sage (what we came to call her as she once nested in our herbs) deserved this unique tribute to her kind.
