This photo appears in the new NC Wreck Diving: Life in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, coffeetable book available now on this site as the first item number on our "Under the Sea Collection" gallery on this site. Donna took this photo of Harold during the time period when the underwater photos in the book were taken. This was in mid winter, January beside Ginnie Springs know for its "gin clear" waters, in north central Florida. There is an excellent campground near these springs and there is an excellent dive shop on site now as well. Back when this shot was taken the site was not nearly so crowded as today, and there were dirt roads to the site only through cow pastures, and no dive shop or deli/restaurant on site. It was a much more rustic campground and site back then. Those were the days!
It was taken at the extremely popular Florida clear fresh water dive site of Ginnie Springs (google search to see this spring and the facilities, camping, and activities, as well as a great technical description of these springs as well as neighboring Devil's Ear and devil's Eye springs on the property. This water stays about 68 degrees farenheit year round, and is part of the Florida aquifer system.Ginnie is located in north central Florida near Gainesville and High Springs, FL.
Harold is and was an amazing photographer and is quite artistic and msot talented in whatever he persues. He taught me all that I know of underwater photography and photographic composition, and to search to see the photo you want to create in that process.
