Cape Petrels over Cape Adare.
Alfred Memelink (see more by this artist)
Cape Petrels over Cape Adare.
The cape is on the NE extremity of Victoria land and is the western entrance portal to the Ross Sea. The cape is 24 miles long and the cape itself is a 300 perpendicular cliff. Antarctica’s largest Adelie Penguin rookery, 250 000 pairs is located here.
Dozens seabirds with distinctive black and white patches circle the ship, they are called Cap Petrels. They have were apparently once called Cape Pigeons but they don’t consider themselves as pigeons so it is no longer PC to call them as such.
