JANET WENSLEY KIMBERLING
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Syracuse University with a BFA in Illustration, Janet Kimberling began painting full time in 1967, after 12 years as an architectural illustrator in Chicago. She first exhibited in Rockefeller Center, New York City, at the age of eleven.
A "Romantic Realist", influenced by Innes and Bierstadt, she prepares her own mediums and canvas in the manner of the Old Masters. She prefers painting outdoors, completing larger works in the studio from her color studies, pencil sketches, and imagination. Janet believes a painting should have a mood, an emotion or a spiritual quality, rather than be a mere representation of things as they are.
Since 1960 she has sold 1025 paintings to collectors in 16 countries, Selected Santa Fe's' Poster Artist of the Year in 1981 AND 1992, she is included in the reference book Contemporary Western Artists by Peggy and Harold Samuels.
COLLECTIONS:
MuseƩ de la Grande Vigne, Dinan, Brittany, France
Booth Western Art Museum, Cartersville, Georgia
Syracuse University Museum, American College of Surgeons, H.R.H. Princess Anne of Great Britain, First National Bank of Chicago, Illinois Bell Telephone Co. Also numerous juried exhibitions and awards.
This piece was the first piece she painted after moving to Santa Fe, NM. She had it framed with recycled wood from an old adobe house in Stanley, NM in Santa Fe county. In addition to the signature on the canvas, it has a brass name plate on the frame with the name of the work and name of the artist.
