Chaumont, the Stables, Loire Valley
Rose Ellis (see more by this artist)
Begun in the 10th century and developed through the mid-19th century, this impressive fortress overlooks the Loire River and the Beuvron valley. Over the centuries, a half-dozen loving owners (including Catherine de Medici, Charles II and others) developed the castle, outbuildings and surrounding farms into one of the most profitable and exquisite country palaces of France, boasting architectural features from late-Gothic to Italianate styles.
