I love rock art, it is a sign of early civilization (in this case Africa). The art shows such imagination and a complete integration of life between man and animals. Man lived simply from the land, animals were hunted for food and not trophies. Man and beast respected one another and lived in harmony. These early artists have portrayed life in those early days and have given us a wonderful account of their lives. There was no paint and paper, just colored sands and stones to paint with and rocks to paint on. What imagination!! True artists they were. The almost stick figures and quirky animals are actually very well portrayed and intelligently drawn.
These paintings of mine are based on the rock paintings of the Bushmen people in Africa. I have added a little white here and there to enhance the images a little more. I discovered how good these artists were by trying to re-create what they did. I did not draw the images first, but painted them straight onto the canvas as they would have done directly onto the rock. They have captured all the nuances of the human figures and those little characteristics that make a cheetah a cheetah for example and this they have done with all their animals. Marvelous art has been created, I salute those artists - may their art be forever preserved. My paintings shown here is my humble tribute to them.
This painting is one of six. They can be purchased separately or as a set. I suggest a set as each one enhances the other.
