Majestic Griffins

"Majestic Griffins" is an encaustic (pigment and wax) that would make a wonderful addition to a den, entry or sitting space.
The griffin is known to be that fabulous monster having the head, wings and claws of an eagle, and the body and hind quarters of a lion. Its origin stems from the ancient east where it was said to guard gold. Combining the qualities of eagle and lion, the Griffin symbolizes watchfulness and courage, not really a monster at all.
As a Christian symbol, the Griffin signifies the dual nature of Christ, divine (bird) and human (animal) and is a very familiar image within the Gothic churches. Dante also describes that the Griffin pulls the triumphal car of the Church. This is a wonderfully strong image to place within your setting, not only for the beauty of handling, but for the meaning.
The subject is monochromatic in coloration, a tonal green/brown. The double griffin image measures 18" x12 3/4" inside the exposed mat area.
The mat measurement is 4 1/2 top and sides, with a bottom mat of 5 1/4". The bottom mat should be larger for visual weight. The mat coloration is stone color core on the outside with Etruscan bronze on the inside. The Etruscan bronze has an 1/8" reveal.
The frame is a wonderful warm silver that has a front profile of 2 1/2" with a side projection of 1 1/4". The warm silver frame is also accented with fine black vein lines throughout for a quality look.
The overall dimension of the frame is 33" x27". The Painting is currently at a gallery, I will try to get a picture of the frame.
This piece can be purchased without the frame also.
