Dierdriana’s Pen, Ink & Color Art
Maureen W. Clifton (see more by this artist)
As designs or ideas came to me, I sketched them. Some were refined & others scratched altogether. Many have been used in medieval (SCA) publications, while some I created specifically for my own publications (instructional manuals). On the upper left of this page of Dierdriana’s Pen & Ink Art is seen a design that looks like a Lotus Blossom – sort of bell shaped. It is a Lotus Blossom & it is my drawing pattern used for my Queen’s Cyphers I gave to those who assisted me most during my reign. It is a ‘D’ for Dierdriana & an ‘R’ for Regina overlapped to create a Lotus shape as curve of the D became the back of the R. There are 3 inverted Lotus Blossoms of a specific style on the chief of my Arms (Heraldic Device). Be sure to view the additional views, one of which is my Arms without mantling in black & white. The top right corner is a stylized Lotus Blossom design I created strictly for letterhead when I was Queen. While it appears to only have 2 blossoms, there are 3, one in each stage, closed, partly open and open fully. While it appears on that page one way, I can use it in any corner of a page my changing its orientation. This style of Lotus Blossom is seen in ancient Egyptian designs. Specifically, I liked the 3 inverted Lotus Blossoms on a fabulous piece of jewelry from ‘The Treasures of Tutankhamun.’ I was fortunate to see that collection in San Francisco CA in 1979 at the Fine Arts Museum. It was awesome! In that collection was a Lotus Goblet that I thought was amazing, so I altered the style a little to use as my main charge on my Arms. In Heraldic terms, my Arms is: Azure (blue), a Lotus Goblet argent (silver), on a Chief argent (silver), Three Lotus Blossoms inverted, gules (red). Some of my uses of my Arms will follow, though my surcote is already in this gallery.
