Norse Costume Winner - Dierdriana

At the end of May, 1979, Maureen as her medieval personna, Dierdriana of the Misty Isles WON a Norse Costume Contest at Egil’s Tourney in the Kingdom of An Tir (SCA, State of Oregon). Someone took this photo of her & gave it to her. It shows the front of the costume a little better than other views. Interestingly enough, this outfit was photographed many times over the years & always complimented. It was eventually sold in an SCA Auction for a Fundraiser. Dierdriana designed, drafted the pattern for & created this costume using modern materials & commercial trim, using the ‘Creative’ part in the SCA’s name! The prize was a beautifully made brass hair comb that is so finely finished, it does not cut the hair when used. See the other views to see her prize, made by a Regenlief the Unrully of An Tir & see additional views to provide details from where the Celtic Design on the comb’s top arrived. It is from Early Irish Art & the item was found in County Limerick, Ireland: the Ardagh Chalice. Maureen aka Dierdriana has seen the chalice on display twice, once in San Francisco when the Irish Art Collection was on display & in the Dublin Art Museum while touring Ireland in 2004. Other views of this Norse Costume are from Archery & at Court, just leaving, having received a Princess' Cypher (in Cynagua, land without water & it was Summer. In that view, I am wearing a white gauzy cotton undertunic, sandals & Norse pants, which came from the Moors & other places. Too hot for a headdress, so I had my hair in braids.
