This cactus is painted from a photograph taken at the University of Michigan's Matthaei Botanical Gardens. It is a type of barrel cactus, and this specimen is actually about 18 inches in diameter. Many cacti are sources of drinking water for desert creatures, and the barrel cactus is especially helpful to those who can navigate around its numerous spines. This piece is gallery wrapped, so that no frame need be purchased.
