Scottish Lasses in Vinhold
Maureen W. Clifton
Dierdriana & her friend, Susan, dressed as Scottish Lasses at Vinhold’s ‘Taste of Scotland’ All Hallow’s Harvest Feast, in 1987 -- long ago & far away with memories still in the shadows of our minds. Scottish Tartans have been found from the 3rd Century AD & though were unrefined & Clan Tartans as setts emerged in the mid to late 1500s. They were refined as time went by. See additional views of Fraser Red Tartan, my Sash & more muted to almost a maroon scarf I procured in Edinburgh in 2004 & Fraser Hunting Tartan, lovely blues & greens. We Scottish lasses are standing by the feast table at which we sat with, none other than the Piper O’ Dundee & Scott of Kent. Dierdriana’s Heraldic Arms banner is above our table. Baron Anthony the Sinister was most pleased with the Scottish Harvest Feast! Do see the Announcement, Feast Schedule & Menu, Ticket design with the Event Favors within this gallery. Each Year, the Barony of Vinhold, West Kingdom (SCA medieval group) held an All Hallow’s Harvest Feast. The theme was different every year, so in 1987, when Scott of Kent had volunteered to be the Autocrat & Countess Dierdriana of the Misty Isles was Co-Autocrat, we decided to have an authentic late-1500s Medieval Scottish Feast! We decorated the hall in grand Scottish Flair with white & Tartan Table coverings for the High Table & medieval banners to decorate the walls. I made a green tablecloth with Fraser Tartan Ribbon for our table that we used during the holidays. Announcements, Feast Schedule & Menu & Tickets were Calligraphed by Dierdriana, who made Scottish Tartan Ribbon Favors (100) for paid guest to wear & as a memory token of the event. The event went well overall & a great time was had by all! Susan is wearing Dress MacRae. This is one of my favorite photos of me wearing my Scottish Fraser Tartan skirt & sash as a shawl with Scottish brooches to attach it to each side of my black velvet vest with silver trim in this Renaissance style of grab. Since that time, I made a part let to wear with it.
