The full title of this painting, completed in early 1993, is 'Maria Wa-Sees-Ya-Qua and her Spirit Eagle, Sam'.
Maria is a dancer, well known on the Pow-Wow trail.
Sam was a bald eagle who was rescued from a trap on the ice in Northern Michigan. Unable to fly, he lived out the rest of his natural life at Lansing Michigan's Fenner Arboretum.
